I think that you said it right there ...

I feel like I'm at a local Corvair meeting, where we try to stay on topic, 
but we talk about what is meaningful to us all, and if we get off track, 
somebody tells you (sometimes not all that subtle about it, I must add, but 
they let you know.)

I like the informality of it, and I can join when I get piqued, or provoked, 
or whatever...
