<VV> Separation of Differential and PG

I've been having trouble separating a failed differential and a powerglide transmission.  They separated about a half an inch and refuse to go any farther.  The governor tab broke off so that isn't the culprit.  Is there anything else?  The two freely rock a little bit but don't separate.  The gear teeth are broken in the differential so it's junk but I would like to see if the PG is salvageable.
