<VV> Lead in gasoline

After all this talk about octane/knock/advance, I was
wondering about lead in gasoline. 

Does everyone use a lead additive in their gasoline?
It use to be required for the old valves and seats.
How long will my heads last without the additive? Are
the rebuild kits currently being sold made for
unleaded fuel?
