I had similar symptoms last year except I also had back sputtering thru the carb. It turned out to be a broken rocker arm (diagnosed by Larry Claypool on the phone). Easy fix and all is well. I do carry a spare rocker arm now though....

After blissfully driving my '65 Monza coupe (110/4spd) to work every day
for 4 months, today on the way home, it developed a miss. I was at a
stop light and when I started off, the engine suddenly went to 5
cylinders. Got home and pulled all the plugs, no problems that I can see
there. One thing I noticed was that I had a noisy lifter(?) on the left
bank and now it is just a quiet, click-click... I'm thinking that a
rocker was loose before and it finally worked itself loose enough to
stop moving the valve. Is this a possibility?? Any other ideas before
I begin disassembly?? Thanks in advance....
