<VV> Car Salesmen/Manufactures (no Corvair)

It's one thing to be yanked around by a new car salesmen, since you can
always walk away from them. I've found that it's usually not the salesmen
at fault, but the practice of the whole dealership. I even had the lost key
routine pulled on me, when they saw I was they lost a sale and I was headed
to another dealer. That was in Annapolis, MD - maybe it's a common trick in
the Navy area. Over the years I have found a number of dealerships that
have competent salesmen and I even saw one get fired, because they didn't
bother to look up information concerning a car that a co-worker of mine
inquired about it on their web site. It was too much trouble to get up and
go look at the sticker on the truck in the showroom.
The big rip-off , that you can't walk away from is when the manufacturer
changes their production, but not their brochures. I found this out when I
purchased new Silverado P/U last year. I was trading in my 2001 Silverado
and getting basically the same thing in the new one, except for a few new
items they didn't offer on the 2001. I looked at a co-workers 2004, which
was pretty much the same as I wanted in the 2005. I went to the dealership
and looked at what they had and picked up a brochure and went home and
studied it. The brochure listed all the new stuff that had been added and
the only thing I could find that was dropped was the underhood light and the
interior air filter. Imagine my surprise a few weeks later while washing
the wheels on my new truck to see drum brakes on the rear. I went back to
the brochure and it showed disc brakes on the rear. In all the data in it,
nowhere did it state it had drum brakes on the rear. It only mentioned ABS
brakes. My old truck had discs. My co-worker's 2004 has disc brakes.
Try as I might I could never get an answer from GM as to why their sales
brochure showed disc brakes in their break-down drawing, nor an answer as to
why they changed. They just led me around in a circle to the same people
that had no answers to my questions and only stated they would file my
complaint.
I try to be an informed buyer, but when the manufacturer miss leads you with
their information, what can you do. I don't know if I would not have bought
this truck or not. Had I known it didn't have disc brakes, but I would have
wanted to know before buying as to why they dropped them, and it had better
been for a good reason as to why they took a step backwards.
