if the rocker is moving a lot side to side i would take the time to check 
valve guide clearances.etc.it might be very worn. any signs of combustion gases 
leaking on the valve spring?  dark dry discoloration is a sign of problems in 
that area, or a "hot spot" on the valve cover , if its real bad.  i have seen 
tis more than once over the years , mostly on exhaust guides.
i used to store my pilot bushings in a jar of oil to keep them lubed and 
ready for installation.
