It the industry, those frames are known as window headers. And all of GM
used the term "sport sedan" to differenciate a headerless 4door from the
full "sedan" 4door which had window headers. They also had a variation
that had headerless doors AND a full "B" pillar.
All 4doors were known as "sedans," though with some added word (like
"sport") when distinguishing headerless cars, with or without full "B"
pillars.
I personally wish they would go back to headerless doors, especially
since the headers that wrap up into the roof are particularly prone to
freezing shut in the winter. I'd also think that doors with headers
would be more prone to jambing shut in a rollover situation, thus
presenting an increased safety hazard. They certainly don't add anything
to the roof strength, despite that illusion.
