In industry terms, the first pillar (windshield-to-front-door pillar) is
the "A" pillar, the second pillar (between the front and rear door or
quarter panel) is the "B" pillar, the third pillar [behind the rear
(second) door and the backlite (or quarter window on a wagon)] is the
"C" pillar, and (if present, as on a station wagon or window van) the
fourth pillar [between the rear quarter (third) window and
tailgate/liftgate backlite] is the "D" pillar.
Most cars accomodate these designations, though there ARE exceptions.
