Have the spoke remnants removed and before machining did a cross check with 
a good steering wheel and an aftermarket hub. Good thing I did because I 
was looking at the hub from the wrong side in the last post.

Viewed properly (note centering mark which is used to align with steering 
shaft) it is evident that the three existing holes are not in the right 
place and a template is needed.

The aftermarket hub is larger than GM  and is used for comparison (think 
this is the one that is still available). Location of the three threaded 
holes for mounting is clearly visible. The GM hub also has a 15/16 collar 
and a 1 1/8" shoulder that is not present in the aftermarket hub and may 
require a shim to reduce stress on the wheel. This shim might also be used 
as a template for the three threaded holes needed to mount the wheel.

Of course if a working horn is not an issue, the existing holes could be 
enlarged.

Check twice, cut once. That is the way. Need to do a little thinking now 
about how to proceed but the hard part, extracting and cleaning the hub, is 
done.
