i used rustoleom grey paint on the trunks , waited a couple days , then went 
over with the splatter paint. the time i tried clear over it , it did not look 
real to me , way to shiney.  so if for show no clear, if i want to use the 
heck out of it i guess i would clear it with ureathane.
just did my lakewood last fall(not used at all yet) it looks like factory job 
with about a can and a half of splatter over grey rustoleum.
