i have the original v engine in my early truck with 164 guts.  it took about 
1/2 hour with a muffler cutter(air powered 4 in grinder) to hog the block out. 
i have done several this way over the years with no trouble.  may not look 
perfect but it works.  just rinse the block and blow it out carefully after.
