<VV> Manuals (my 2 cents worth)

I, for one, think our Princess friend has a point when it comes to the
"user-friendliness" of many manuals. It's always seemed to me that they're
"preaching to the choir" in that they all seem to presuppose a level of mechanical
skill that doesn't always encourage the uninitiated to join the hobby. One
exception, in my opinion, is Richard Finch's "How To Keep Your Corvair Alive."
Without debating the merits of his every tid-bit of advice, I can say that I
appreciate his step-by-step instructions. For instance, in describing oil change
procedures he goes so far as to tell his reader what size wrench to use to
loosen the drain plug. Beats crawling in and out from under the car trying one
and then the other until you find the one that fits!
I'm not intimately familiar with things VW but aren't there some books out
there for VW maintenance and repair that are very, very basic for the
mechanically challenged? I always longed for something similar for Corvairs. And a
detailed index would help, too!
