If the only known problem is reaction with acid fumes from the battery, a
rather obvious solution comes to mind. Relocate the battery or otherwise
isolate it to prevent fumes from possibly being sucked into the fan.

Kent, My company had a "special" project to replace Delrin, which was
being eaten by a mild acid. We went through an extensive (read as
multi-million $ DoD spending) material selection, design, manufacture
and test process. We finally settled on PEEK (polyether-ether-ketone)
for the part. PEEK is a very high temperature material, extremely inert
and very strong. It comes in many flavors, including fiberglass and
carbon reinforcements. Its one drawback is that it is expensive as a
raw material. For building a fan, a major cost will be in the mold
design/manufacture process. The material cost may be secondary if the
quantities are fairly low. PEEK raw material is made by Victrex in the
UK (http://www.victrex.com), but is widely availble around this country.

How many oil drain plugs are required on a Corvair engine???? The
parts car I tore apart (still have many parts available. ) had
two extra drains installed by someone... Random... no particular
reason that I could see. Thats 3 drain plugs in te oil pan. Very
strange. ggg

Actually, these do look somewhat like a 911 fan. Now I am getting a clearer
picture, so to speak. Thanks for the links!
What does the shroud look like for this fan?
See what you started? <G>

I think "how to hotrod corvair engines" or the first "turbochargers" books
showed a 911 fan conversion, maybe on some Reeves Callaway's or Alex
Dearborn's stuff
