Hi Mike,
I'm not sure that this will be of much help, but why not get the car up on 
jackstands and with it in gear, (motor off)  rotate the tires back and forth to 
see if the noise can be heard? Even running the engine in gear with the rear 
wheel elevated should allow the noise to occur and then maybe you can locate 
the source.
