Of course, a common problem is solenoid failure. (click!)  An  inexpensive 
"repair" (zero $) can be applied when the sole problem is the worn  contact 
inside the solenoid. Removal, 180 degree rotation of the contact face, a  little 
clean up of the other contact, re-assembly and a re-install, will usually  give 
you another 50 thousand miles. If you open it up and find the contact has  
already been rotated, it might be time to go through the whole starter anyway. -
