<VV> power glide dash selector removal

I'm trying to remove the dash panel from my '66 sport sedan so I can clean it up and paint it.  The assembly manual has nothing on it.  I've managed to get the panel loose from the dash but I can't figure out how to disconnect the transmission gear selector assembly from the inside of the dash panel.  Before I botch anything that might screw up the gear selector, I thought I would ask you all for some advise.  Thanks in advance.
