<VV> Simple Clutch Adjustment?

I've finally got the '65 Monza coupe in sound enough condition to be consider road-worthy.  Having installed new floor mats (carpeted), I noticed that the clutch pedal has to be depressed a bit harder to provide the type of gear shifting (4 speed) that I've come to expect.  I've read the shop manual on clutch adjustment and it sounds awfully complicated for what I want to do.  I'd like to have the clutch pedal release with a little more distance between the pedal and the floor.  Can someone provide a very simple explanation (for the mechanically challenged amateur) on how I might make this adjustment.  I have the car on jack stands and I'd like to have everything underneath taken care of before the unveiling of this 3-year project in early Sep.

I'll appreciate any advice on the clutch question.
