i do it all the time. just watch exhaust. i run mine with manifolds and a 
crossover or mufflers most of the time.  when running without manifolds you can 
see the even flow/flame if having trouble adjusting valves. even length of 
flame at about 1000 rpm equals nice adjustment of valves. just dont run it long on 
a wood bench....you end up with 6 nice black spots...(dont ask, it was many 
years ago..) see pictures on website
