i wanted to know what the difficulty of installing this is?... its a 4 spd.
does it require jacking the car up? any special tools or anything?
Cody,
It no more difficult than installing a regular shifter. It will be easier if
you can jack up the car and put it on 4 jack stands but you can do it with
just 2. The only tools you'll need is a ratchet set.
Jack up at least one side of the car as far as you can and put the jack
stands in just behind the front wheels an in front of the rears. You'll have to
remove the tunnel cover, about 16-20 sheet metal screws. You'll have to remove
the shifter shaft where it connects to the shifter through the floor (4 nuts).
Keep track of the shims, if any, under the floor shifter. Install the quick
shift kit per the directions, reinstall everything. You'll probably need to
adjust the shifter, it's easy using the directions from the shop manual. Finally
button up the tunnel pan, lower the car and enjoy...
I'd guess with your experience, taking your time, and anticipating some
difficulties (they're designed in to every job by Murphy) it will take you 3-4
hours from start to finish. Sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon with
your Dad.
