Chris, this connection is necessary, as all the 12 volt power to the car flows through it with the exception of the high power starter current, hence the separate large wire to the starter solenoid. If you remove the plastic junction from the frame rail, you must still have the wires connected together. Why not leave it stock, as it has been a troublefree system for many years. Much less trouble prone than most crimps or Schotchlock connections done by average people. Do not re-engineer a non existant problem without knowledge.
