Well, Tom,
It sounds like you aren't getting enough sideways (right) twist to
shift shaft from lower portion of gear shift lever. Since you took housing
apart to do the stuff to the shift lever, did you reverse the cast housing?
Or, if you used a 3spd housing, it is taller, methinks. If you look closely,
you will see that there is a slight offset in slot/opening on top and the 3
spds and 4spds ought to be opposite, aren't they? Where is reverse on a 3
spd? Anyway, you want the "lower" portion on left so there is more room for
gear shift lever to move to left-so underneath it moves far enough to right.
Good Luck

finally got the 66 corsa down Sunday for a round the block shakedown...can't
find reverse...had 3-speed sag before,added clarks floor pans,NO plastic
shims,5/16 fender washers (3/8hole) under shft hsng,steel key @
tube/coupling..lengthened shift at ball end 1/4" to compensate for floor
thickness...just won't 'click',but can get rev w/screwdriver in coupling and
front socket..have 3 'different' shift tubes,2 are stamped steel 'cups',1
has small chunk of steel welded to right slot, where reverse would be,other
doesn't,not using tube w/ cast end cause it's bent bad at coupling
end...Clark's shows #c129 (P117)as all LM part.....which one's right for
4-speed?..yes,r/r'ed it all,it's centered in neutral...t.z.
