Maybe. If the seals in the heat box are shaky, and after 40 years, I'd be
suspicious, then, yes, this is a potential air leak of vital engine coolant.
And besides, why would you want to dilute the heated air with cool air for
cabin heat? Dumb design. At least in areas that require all the heat you can
get. Like Maryland in the winter. If you do cap off the turkey roaster,
don't forget to cap off the other end at the heatbox, otherwise hot air will
escape when the heater is on.
