Joe, in my opinion, one of the critical factors is ascertaining exactly what
if anything was done to the heads at the last rebuild. If the heads were
not done, I would not pay more than $300 for it for the reasons you are all
too familiar with. If you knew for a fact that the heads have been done and
new deep valve seats have been inserted, I could see the price going up into
the ranges Bob suggests. I bought a running unknown 110 from a list member
last summer for $250, and it seems to run fine, but I am less concerned
about 110s dropping valve seats, so from the standpoint of taking a used
motor, dropping in the car and running it, I would be more comfy with a 110
than a 140.
Frankly it is a piece of junk I am sure you don't want. I'll do the seller
the favor of disposing of this scrap for $5. Have him give me a call.
