Alternator regulators carry no CURRENT.....they just regulate field 
voltage...

The "cheap little stuff"  inside, is part ELECTRONICS  not RELAYS.....

My favorite is the 1960-65[?]  Chrysler products VR...small / cheap/  and 
WORKS

The old relay types were great for Japanese MC's   which,  those who owned 
any in the 70's...were notorious for overcharging the batteries if lots of 
highways were traveled...

The Mopars had only one contact....east to bend!
