<VV> Under Hood Padding retainers

Too cheap? Heck, I was salvaging them before they were ever available
from the vendors. What you do is take a thin/small needlenose pliers and
stick it in the middle of the retainer. Then squeeze and give it a yank.
MOST of the time they will pop right out. However be aware that some
stick harder than others, and some will even decapitate themselves.
Which is why it's a good idea to salvage a supply from at least two
cars. (That and the varying condition.)

BTW this method works on both the plastic and metal retainers. The only
difference is that with the metal ones, you might want to slightly
depress the corners opposite the sides of the pliers while pulling to
aid in their removal.

Is there a way to remove the 11 or so square retainers that hold the sound padding on the underside of the hood, The pad is in good shape, but is dirty and soaked with oil. I can clean it, and I would prefer to keep it, as the replacement pads are not contoured according to the Clarks Catalog. It has to come off one way or the other for painting.
