[V8Vairs] Trailing Arm Stabilizer Bar

Can anyone explain the purpose of the stock stabilizer bar that runs from
the front half of the trailing arm to the transmission on a stock late
model?  My V8 is using the stock trailing arms, though I am not using any of
the stock transaxle.  With my lower control arms and both the motor and
transmission solidly mounted, I guess I don't see the value of this weak
little linkage.
