[NoVa-Corvairs] Fw: August 19 meeting and ULTRA VAN!!!

Hey Stan,

Remember the Ultra is just a big Greenbrier. Same size wheels, engine, weight, etc. They are really not much heavier than your 64. The Automatic makes it better to have more gear multiplication.

I know you love the Ranch. But maybe check out Greg's guy. It might be worth having a Killer powerglide setup done for Mable. The 2 spd Powergluides have been drag raced for so long there are some really good parts and information available to get the most power transfer.

Look. Put out the word that you are looking for an automatic transaxel and cable set up for the ultravan. The ultravan forum , VV, Corvair Forum, Corvair Center, ETC. Facebook, Instagram, There is one out ther with Mable's name on it.

Remember the powergluide cable is lubricated by the Trans fluid. The Ultravan guys should know exactly how the original system worked on the Ultravan. Whether a stock cable was used with some additional linkage or there was a special longer cable made.
But maybe not so much longer as the GB is about 18 ft and ultravan 22. Also you maybe able to use the stock cable by making the distance shorter by having the Shift unit next to the seat on the floor instead of up on the dash. There are several units made just to make a floor mounted powergluide for the reg. Corvair. Mark H. still has the floor mounted unit he made up for his first Vair. But the cable has to be good so the fluid will not leak out of it.

Anyway. Most Ultravan's were done as automatics. You are not the first owner to do this so reach out to all the Corvair sources and see what the consensus is.

What I do not remember is what differential was used. Not ratio but whether Early or late. I believe it is a late. But know , so as you put the word out you will get the right complete transaxel. Easy to figure as just look at yours.

One other thought would be to buy a whole rusty late to just get the transaxel. cable, shifter, etc. Not as easy as it once was, but again. Spread the word out as that may turn up as easy as the unit an give you more of the stuff you need. You can always let the Ranch have the remains.

No one will tell you they have this stuff if they do not know you are looking. So spread the words FAR.

Hey, Stan! I am curious about what ratio rear diff you want to run, plus if it will be necessary to run a 4 spyder conversion? I made a contact at the convention that builds 4 spyder diffs for high horsepower engines, and you may want to consider that for Mabel. I'll text you the information. Later... Greg
