I would go with an electric fuel pump. I haven't had a problem with mine. Has always worked. I heard/read about a run of bad manual pumps that failed with a lot fewer than your mileage. Of course, there is always the manual versus electric debate that was ongoing a few years ago. 

As to oil, remember what Curt said about the lower zinc level in the newest oils. I think that he told Darrin to go with Mobil racing oil which still has the higher zinc level. 

That about expends my entire expertise on both subjects.
