if you coil up about 16 inches of that wire and tape it , you should get
rid of that syndrome. otherwise it will take off ok after a quick run up to
@1600 rpm.
on my coupe , i put in a heavy duty "plastic/ resin thingy "tie post near
where a late would have it to tie my extra power leads to the front. i ran
the red wire to this from the alt reg terminal. this took care of that. i
found some nice heavy duty tie posts on modern GM cars in the junkyard , that
are perfect for corvair B plus tie points. they mount with a screw tab ,
and have a number 12 screw post that is strong.
i am running 100 amp alternators on mine for all the extra loads i have.
the truck has had this setup for many years now working great. extra
headlight option (12 volt aircraft landing lites in hi beam , ham radios and heated
seats ) do fine. i put a voltmeter in my spyder dash in place of head
temp. mini motometer in place of boost gauge.

As I understand it if you run that short jumper the alt won't sense a low
enough volt drop and won't charge at lower rpms. I used the two now unused
wires in the old regulator harness jumped them where the reg was and
connected one to the #1lead on the connector and the other to the main alt post.
Now there is enough of a drop for the alt to sense and once the engine
starts I don't get the gen light coming on.
