BSCC- Flying Corvairs

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a unique and interesting place. They use a
"show" as a setting to fly old aircraft and drive a variety of old cars.
The founder, Cole Palen, was a friend of my fathers and I grew up hanging
around the Aerodrome on many weekends. My father flew in some of the shows
and my sister played an escaped convict in the show for a few years. Cole
used to go to Florida each winter and restore/build another airplane, so
there are many that are retired from flying that can be seen in the
"museums". He was a stickler for authenticity.

I have not been in quite a while but it used to be that Saturday was pre and
post WWI aircraft and the Sunday show was WWI aircraft.

Unfortunately I have a commitment that weekend or I would definitely be
there. My sister is threatening to borrow my Corvair for the weekend.

It ought to be a pretty neat event if you can make it.

>From the Hemmings on-line newsletter. This might make
an interesting weekend cruise! The town of Rhinebeck
is very charming, Paul and I have been there when our
son was in school nearby in Hyde Park.

If you own a Corvair-powered aircraft, or even the
more popular four-wheel kind, there's a special event
happening this July 12 that you may want to
attend.

At the historic Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, located about
two hours north of New York City, the New Jersey
Association of Corvair Enthusiasts
(http://www.corvair.org/chapters/njace/) will be
hosting an all-Corvair drive and fly event. There will
be a parade, air show, biplane rides and ready access
to the many quonset huts that make up this unique air
museum.

The rain date is July 13. For more information about
bringing your Corvair, contact Ken Schifftner,
scrubbr at ix.netcom.com. Or visit the Old Rhinebeck
Aerodrome's Web site, http://www.oldrhinebeck.org/
