BSCC- Rick's Engine Saga Update

Hi Rick,

There is a resistance wire ( instead of ballast resistor) that goes to
the plus side of the coil that limits voltage. When the wire gets
old, the resistance changes, and when the wire gets hot, and the engine
compartment gets hotter the resistance increases, thus decreasing
voltage to the coil, and secondary spark output. In addtion, sometimes
the wrong coil is also chosen to match the resistor wire.

I have seen this problem cause your symptoms about 6 times. You can
troubleshoot the resistor wire by taking off the lead to the plus side
of the coil when the car starts to skip and run a clip/ jumper lead
from the plus side of the BAT. to the plus side of the coil. If the
coil is good, this should solve it. Just don;t drive along for too
long since the coil I do not know what you have for a coil.

Note--if you are using a Bosch Blue coil you should NOT be using the
standard/ stock resistor wire anyway since the coil is engineered to be
used without it. This coil by they way offers the Hotest spark of all
point type coils.

Good luck,

Jerry
