Classic Cars
Caring for Corvairs
In July, the Corvair Society of America (CORSA) held
its annual national convention in Buffalo, New York,
with great success. Hundreds of Corvair owners from
around the country attended, including one member who
drove his Corvair all the way from Alaska.
The concours, which was held in the tree-lined LaSalle
park along the Lake Erie lakefront, saw several
hundred cars on the lawn, including Monzas,
Greenbriers, Rampsides, Lakewoods and several Yenko
Stingers and Fitch Sprints.
The most remarkable aspect of the concours was the
quality of the restorations. Without question, the
level of Corvair restorations is now equal to any of
the high-end Classics displayed on the lawn at Pebble
Beach or Meadow Brook. We saw several perfect,
factory-correct Corvairs, in both the first-generation
1960-1964 design and the later 1965-1969 models. And
not just Corsa and Turbo convertibles, but 500- and
700-series sedans and four-door models, too. It was a
truly remarkable experience for one of Americas truly
remarkable automobiles. To learn more about the CORSA
club, visit their Web site: www.corvair.org
