Hello
It sounds like you have a bad fly wheel. We had a lot of trouble with
the rivets coming loose.
The bolts on the fly wheel can hit the clutch disc.

I bought my 66 Corsa with no engine. The engine I bought (140) is
supposed to be basically new. It turned over nicely before putting
it in the car, and the input shaft turned nicely in the
transmission. Now that the engine is in the car when I turn it over
by hand there is an evenly spaced light clunk, clunk, clunk. Does
not bind the engine. It actually sounds like it is coming from the
bell housing. When turned over with the starter it sounds terrible.
Not sure if this is the same problem magnified or something else.
Could the fly-wheel or pressure plate bolts be hitting on something?
I have seen starters shimmed on older cars - do Corvairs ever need
this? I have tried it with the clutch in and out, in and out of gear
etc. and nothing seems to change it. I am trying to avoid pulling
the engine back out if it could be something else. Any suggestions??ThanksMark
