More about myself:
I bought my first Corvair, a 64 Monza in 1969 to replace the Triumph TR-3 that finally wore out. I drove that car for over 5 years daily. The '63 Monza mentioned above was bought as a parts car for $25 and was perfect other than a trashed engine.
My Monza coupe was totalled in a rear end accident in Houston. I found the '64 Monza Convertible at a Chevy dealership and bought it for $175 from the Body shop manager there. As it turned out, the engine was a 1960 Corvair, and the ac wasnt hooked up. This was ok because the '60 engine ran just fine on leaded regular gas, and the car was used every day for my work car. I sold the convertible and the parts car to an enthusiast that I worked with, with the promise that I got first choice to buy it back if he ever sold it. About 5 or 6 years later I bought it back (and had to take the parts car as part of the dea)
It had been repainted a very nice Toyota Red and it still needed new upholstery. The first thing I did with the car this time was to have a white tonneau cover made at a Pasadena, Tx trimshop. I had grown to love a tonneau cover while driving my TR-3. The corvair really looked sharp with the tonneau cover on it.
I had to sell it after about 2 years and have been out of Corvair ownership for about 10 years now. I have never forgotten what a great little car a Corvair is and have never given up hope of owning another '64 convertible.
