1965 140 hp. Convair in 1968 Avenger GT 12 built in 1968 and now being rebuilt

More about myself:

53,marrried, built an Avenger GT 12 in 1968, am now rebuilting it with a corvair 4 speed transmission instead of the old VW trany. I would like to get some advice about running the shift linkage. There is an alinment difference of about 3 inches between the center line of the car and shift shaft of the trany. Anyone ever deal with a problem like this?
