More about myself:
My surname confuses a lot of people, so let me just clarify that I am half Dutch, my father having been born in Friesland, the northern province of the Netherlands. He came to South Africa with his parents as a young boy, so my Dutch heritage has been mostly lost over time and my home language has always been English. I've been a car enthusiast for as long as I can remember, but I suppose my real interest began at the age of 17. My enthusiasm for rear-engined cars must have evolved from my first car, a Volkswagen 411 coupe and although it was soon replaced with something new, I always hankered after another Type 4. A decade later I bought a VW 412 Variant as a daily driver, but by then the Corvair bug had bitten and I was on the look-out for a suitable car. In 1990 I bought my first Corvair, a 1965 Monza 110 coupe with powerglide and about 5 years later I acquired a 1960 700 sedan, also with powerglide, from a friend who had become sight impaired and could no longer drive. I've also been a long time Citroën fanatic and have owned a number of them. Currently I have a 1978 Citroën GS Estate and a 1987 Citroën CX 25 GTi Turbo 2. My fascination with rotary engines lead me to buy a 1970 NSU Ro80, which is presently stripped and may take a while to put back together. I drive a 1992 Honda 160i as my current daily driver. My career started off in the insurance industry and realising this was not for me, I moved into real estate, but came to the conclusion that I was too young for the job at the age of 21. Unfortunately I made the mistake of moving back into insurance for a few years, which was a total waste of time, before starting a business venture with my brother in the automotive air-conditioning, car audio and security field. I enjoyed the change, but was eventually lured into the domestic access control industry and started a branch of a national company supplying gate motors, intercom systems, electric locks and remote controls to the trade. I declined a transfer to the company's head office in July 2000 and started my own operation at the beginning of 2001 after taking a 5 month break. Currently my life is a bit hectic what with running the business, maintaining a house and restoring cars. I'm looking for a suitable business partner, or an employee who can alleviate the current work load.
