Hi Grant,
My brother forwarded your email to me. I am in Murfreesboro, about 30-40 mi South of Nashville. Being a former mechanic, I've never had work done at a local shop. Some friends used a shop that fixed their cars to their satisfaction, and it sounded as such with their description, but this was 10+ years ago. That place is Hackett Automotive (yeah, the name ain't exactly confidence inspiring). They have been in business for a long time, and the facility looks decent from the street i.e., not a lot of 'dead corpses' parked out front.
My recommendation is to search online for shops with decent reviews, at least places closer to your location in Nashville.
Last, i get the impression there is something causing the pump to fail other than the pump itself. Once upon a time the 'parts replacers' working next to me had a late 80s Nissan Maxima where PS fluid was puking out the reservoir's filler cap. after replacing the pump, hoses, and then steering rack 2x each to no avail, they eventually replaced the reservoir, separate of the pump, to resolve the issue. Turns out the mesh screen/strainer of the pump feed line inside the reservoir was packed with debris, greatly restricting fluid flow. The pump would starve/cavitate while the reservoir would overfill with return fluid. If your Taurus's reservoir is separate of the pump (in other words, it has not been replaced), it is a possible cause to the car's issue. Otherwise, the steering rack (steering box?) might be the cause. Of course, not knowing ALL the details, there can be many possible causes and I don't want to burden you with a book's worth of writing.
Hopefully your issue is already resolved but if not, may it be resolved quickly.
Regards,
Norm

Please drop me a note if you are in the Nashville Tn area. I have a low miles (60K 2006) Taurus there that my grandson is using and had it "repaired" for
a power steering pump replacement about 3 months ago at a dump called Nashboro Auto Repair. They have replaced it 3 times since, along
with 4 hoses and drive belt. It lasts several days to a week each time. It is in for a 4th one today. Doesn't matter if the pump is new or rebuilt,
but they installed 3 lines before figuring out they were defective (valve in backwards). I am looking for a different place to have it repaired besides
the Ford dealership, but might have to resort to that. Was promised a refund (over $800) if this last one doesn't do it (and I suspect it won't, knowing the definition of insanity)
Thanks for any tips
Grant
If this helps - seems it blows the cap loose or off and the fluid leaks out and it fails. Think they might be using chinese parts, but not sure since they are from
a local LAPS.
