<VV> Re temp press light

I  believe that the oil pressure switch is designed to fail in the open position.

With the key in the on position my 61 Rampside with manual trans and 95 HP engine has only the Gen/Fan light on. The Press/Temp light is not lit. I have continuity from the Press/Temp bulb socket tan wire to the ignition and from the blue wire back to the sending unit wire in the rear. If I ground the temp and press wire before the split the Press/Temp light will light. Are the oil pressure and cylinder temp senders supposed to be closed initially to complete the circuit? Why is the bulb not lit in the ignition ON position? I don't know if this matters, but I do have the engine/wiring updated with a self regulated alternator. I did not see anything in that conversion mentioning any effects to the dummy lights. Thanks in advance.

Then the circuit from there to the dashboard light is GOOD.

YES

Because either the switch is bad or the short length of wire between the 
switch and the split is bad, 99% of the time it is the switch. Simple 
test, ground the terminal of the switch.

One correction: only the Oil pressure switch is closed initially (because there is no oil pressure with the engine not running!); the temp switch is OPEN!  But because the two switches are wired in series, the idiot light goes on with ignition on before you start the engine.
