I have rebuilt a couple of 64/65 transmissions. In the course of doing so I
read Craig Nichol's article in the Corsa Tech guide regarding the evolution
from late 63 till 65.
The early 64's had a one hole cluster gear and apparently a unique clutch
gear.
The late 64/65 had a 2 hole cluster(countergear) gear and a different clutch
gear.
If I look at each clutch gear they look exactly the same except for the
angle cut on the edge of the gear.
What is the difference in the clutch gears?
I learned the hard way because I tried using the later clutch gear with a 1
hole cluster gear and when I got the mainshaft in with a new front bearing
front bearing in nothing would turn.
Putting a known clutch gear from a known 1 hole cluster gear and everything
was fine.
Also what is the difference between the 1 hole cluster gear and the 2 hole
cluster gear? Aside from the hole they appear the same.
I tried measuring with outside mic's but don't think I got consistent
results due to the gear teeth.
So in summary what is the difference in the clutch gears and cluster gears?
And what works with what?
Thank you.

Mel
