When you are looking for help, it is a good idea to give the people you are 
asking as much help as you can.  Chevrolet wiring colors standards changed 
from time to time.  What year car are you dealing with?  I can tell from the 
picture it is an early car.  I can also see in your picture that your backup 
switch only has one wire connected, and nothing on the other lug on the 
switch.  There is a good possibility that is where the wire goes.  The wires 
from the brake light switch should go to the headlight switch and the turn 
signal switch.  Trace the green wire to the other end and see if it goes to 
one of them.

Hi, I have the pictured green mystery wire with black connector hanging
down under the dash near the steering column. I do not know what it does or
where it goes. If anyone could direct me as to what it does and where it
should go I would appreciate it.
