I agree with Matt, but it happened to me--twice--in a '68. The cigar lighter gets pushed in and won't pop out. It will get hot enough to glow at night --don't touch it with bare fingers. Disconnect the heavy wire from the back of the lighter socket and tape it to avoid further shorts. If you need a cigar lighter then replace it with a new one that pops out and clean the socket of any corrosion or replace it too.

Need some advice on my latest Corvair issue. Driving along at maybe 35 mph when car started to fill with smoke from under dash. Pulled over and disconnected the battery. After a few minutes smoke cleared and was able to drive home safely. Did take quick glance under dash to see some wires starting to melt there covering. Any ideas of the cause? Any help appreciated.
