<VV> More lug nuts

Good try, but I don't buy it.  Ha!

Same could be said for EVERY fastener on the vehicle.

It is amazing the number of people out west that argue for the dry
method. I always tell them here in the rusty east I lubricate threads so
I can remove them in the future. Wheel studs are just another thread on
a vehicle.

Now to extend this discussion, unrelated to Corvairs, AFAIK, "they" say
to always install drums on tapered axles DRY, as lubricating them will
cause damage. I still cannot wrap my head around this. I've been known
to lube the taper shaft of a ball joint/tie rod end before installation
around here!

In true confessions, in 50 years of working on vehicles, I have had two
loose wheels. Both times I never tightened the lug nuts. First time on a
friends Mustang, I heard the click click of the wheel being loos,
stopped and tighten the nuts. Second time was a customer's Acura with
$600 chrome wheels....... I test drove it around the block and the wheel
went ahead of me..... and the car came to a sudden halt. Only doing 25
or so, around the Lee monument. Scary was watching the wheel roll along
and so lucky it didn't hit anything, any person, nothing. Ran back two
blocks to the shop and dragged a floor jack back to put the spare on,
car still sitting on middle of road next to Lee monument....  Lower ball
joint had punched a hole in the $600 rim..... rest of car was AOK!

Never left another wheel loose.
