More than you want to know is here:

http://jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/batbrand.htm

They update this list every year.

Basically there are THREE (3)  lead acid battery manufacturers in the
US.  Exide, Johnson Controls and  Ener Sys. Exide bought GNB in 2013(?)
so it went from 4 o 3 manufacturers.

Interstate is NOT a manufacturer. See the list above to see which of the
three make them. I am speaking of flooded cell vehicle starting lead
acid batteries. There are many sealed lead acid battery and absorbed
glass mat battery manufacturers (and Ni-Mh, Li-Ion, etc etc etc new
technology...).

My first go to battery source is Costco, since I am a member. Good
warranty, currently sells Interstate brand, but the Kirklands before
were fine also. And hey, if they failed, I just replaced them under
warranty.

Walmart (just like Bryan mentioned) is my second source, they have more
models (battery numbers) than Costco carries.

I find Auto Zone and Advance to be waaaayyyy expensive.

I do like the $5 O'reilley's gives me for the old batteries I turn in
when cleaning up.

Deka  (East Penn Manufacturing) (also Douglas) is a small outfit not
counted in the 3 majors above. Their products are good, but not
available everywhere, so no recent experience with them. But, I did buy
my battery terminals from the local distributor to make 6 volt (0 and 00
gauge) cables.

Maybe this helps, or just confuses!
