Bill, If you haven't solved this yet, look at the two wires that attach to the solenoid. They pass through a rubber grommet in the back shroud next to the fuel line. If the grommet is old, hard and cracked, the wires may be rubbing against the sheet metal and the insulation may have been damaged there. These wires are energized only during starting. The yellow wire feeds 12v to the coil during starting only, but a short in the insulation may cause the intermittent grounding of the coil. Steve GangiThe "Rubber Guy"
