<VV> Turbo Seal Question

I recently had a turbocharger disintegrate. It was rebuilt using one of the new style one-piece carbon seals that is on the market. It appears that the seal failed, allowing the rotating unit to wobble and break apart (into about 6 pieces) at high rpm, throwing its shrapnel through the intake housing. I don't have much experience with the new style seals and am checking to see if anyone else has experienced a problem?
