Hi Karl and others

I have got assistance from a guru on miniature LEDs on some models I have made.

We have amber LEDs that flash without a flasher unit in place. The LEDs are made that way. Not sure if they come in full size LEDs

There are also LEDs that illuminate one colour and when direction of current is reversed they illuminate a second colour.

We also have some Tamiya model paint that is “clear red” and “clear orange” that we spray inside the lens.

Its not ordinary red and amber paint, its “clear red” and “clear amber”

As well as the models I use this on my big Spyder to freshen up the look of the lights, particularly the ambers.

I wonder if you could mask off your lens and paint the insides red and amber (as appropriate) and thus do away with cutting the housing up?

Then use plain white bulbs that would show red or amber when they passed through the painted lens.

I mentioned this just in case any of that would be of any use to you.

The result of what my mate has set up for me is that we have a model of a ’66 El Camino on a flat stand with switches along the front.

The first switch is 3 stage vertical to represent main lights. OFF, Park, Low beam/tail

The second switch is a button (like on car floor) that toggles from low to high beam. It only works with higher current through the outer headlights.

The third switch is a spring loaded button that puts higher voltage to tail lights to represent brake lights.

The fourth switch is 3 stage horizontal to represent indicators. Left, OFF, Right .

The lights/switches can function at same time like on full size car.

I did the model assembly and my mate did a brilliant job on the LEDs and switches.

When my mate was finished, I asked him if he could wire in a 5th switch to represent the horn.

I get out of hospital in a couple of days. 😊
