Robert Bruce Heltemes (Bob Helt) died on April 18, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob was born in 1930 in Helena, Montana, the son of Clemens and Marie (DePlazes) Heltemes.
Bob graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Dakota Agricultural College in 1952 and entered the Air Force. Bob was a pioneering computer engineer with Remington Rand in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He continued his work in computers in Phoenix, Arizona, where he earned an M.B.A. from Arizona State University in 1971.
Bob was a nationally known author and expert on the Corvair. He was a past president of the International Corvair Society, CORSA, on its Board of Directors for many years, and its first lifetime member. Most recently, he was active in the Vegas Vairs.
Bob was predeceased by wife Mary Alice (Mulligan) Heltemes, former wife Marguerite (Churney) Heltemes, wife Dolores (Sauvageau) Heltemes, brother Clemens Heltemes, sister Marilyn Easter, and daughter Patricia Davidson. His daughters Maia Bonner, Rebecca Ferguson, and Mary Sue Mulligan survive him. He also leaves sons-in-law Keith Ferguson and William Eccleston, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will take place at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 12 noon on Thursday, April 26. Friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Corvair Preservation Foundation or the Humane Society would be appreciated.
