<VV> 140 Engine: Dropped Valve Seat or ? ? ?

Thanks again for everyone’s replies. I’m located in Upstate NY.

As I mentioned in my post, I’ve had great fun driving it 90,000 miles over the past 22 years. The body was not in great condition when I bought it, and it has reached the point where I was getting concerned about it passing our yearly state safety inspection. I figured that one or the other [body or powertrain] would determine its fate as the years went by. So now it looks like it’s time to part it out for spares or sell it as is.

I have a 140 in my Lakewood, so I’ll keep the deep seat option in mind if [when] this “spot of bother” happens to it.

Yes, a valve seat can move around and allow the valve to reseat itself. I suggest if pulling the cylinder head (sounds like you have to) replace ALL the seats with deep seats. I also suggest having a Corvair guy do the work. There are a few guys that know these things. What part of the world are you located?
