### The brakes on my '64 convertible that I am re-building started getting
soggy, so I changed the master cylinder - but I replaced it with a 7/8"
instead of the 1" that (I think) was fitted originally. At the same time I
fitted re-lined shoes all round that I got from Autozone. Don't know what
material they are. I'm not over-whelmed by the new brakes, but it's too
early to tell yet as they haven't bedded in. They're ok, but I was hoping
for a significant improvement with the smaller m/cyl, but they don't feel
that much different. The difference, incidentally, is the square of the
difference in bore size, so if you go from 7/8" to 8/8" the difference is
49:64, or about 3:4, so the pedal pressure should only be 3/4 of what it
was. I'll see what they're like when they've all settled in.
While I was at it I replaced both rear brake hoses, as one of them was
completely blocked, and I replaced the rear cylinders also, as one of them
hadn't moved in a long time due to the blocked hose and was full of crud.

A few years ago I had Cotrofeld's redo the brakes on my 66. They put on
what I think they said were Kevlar brakes. They worked extremely well. At
the time I thought that it would be hard to see how disc brakes would be any
better.
Of course, I don't race the car, but I don't baby it either.

Hi all,
I would like to upgrade the brakes on my 61. I have already put in a
rebuilt 64 front end, now what next? I am not sold on the disk brake
conversion kits that I have seen. Besides the wife loves the wheel covers,
so for now the 13's stay on the car.
My only choice seems to be stock metallic pads. Anyone have a set? Or have
any other suggestions?
Jim
