<VV> Changing C878 Power Glide gear shift o-ring. How to get the rod off?

Putting a screwdriver in the right side fitting and wiggling while prying on the linkage made the shift shaft come out. However, the C878 o-ring looks way too big. Less of a problem but still a problem the steering linkage rubber grommet disintegrated.

typical!!   Work slow and carefully  with a soft tipped  tool to work it in the hole without pinching it...  use oil or Silicone spray. or thin grease...
